Hush Little Kitty

After putting the boys to bed tonight, I heard singing coming from their bedroom. As I got closer, I realized it was "Hush, Little Kitty"--from the time Caden was really small, I would sing "Hush Little Baby" to him, but I would make up all of the lines. He told me as his sixth birthday approached that he would be too old for me to sing it to him anymore when he turned six. However, I sang it to him long after his sixth birthday, and he still occasionally asks me for it! I looked under his covers when I went in there tonight, and there was his cat, Angel, that he was hiding, and he was singing made-up verses of the song to her. She was missing for about 5 days last week. She is always sitting in front of the front door by 7am knowing he will let her in, or is jumping up to see in the living room window to check if he is up yet. So, when she was gone for 5 days, we all feared the worst. She showed up again late Saturday and it has been a happy reunion for both Caden and Angel.

Amazing!

Today, a girl called into Chuck's office explaining that she needed insurance. She was at Greg's Chevrolet on the Belt, buying a new car, and was looking for someone to insure her. They tried several, and then she looked up, saw Chuck's billboard and said, "What about him?" So, they called Chuck and he wrote her a policy!

A Big Face!

It is very strange to drive down the Belt Highway in St. Joe and see Chuck's face on a huge billboard! When my sister-in-law, Trena, was here, as we were driving down the Belt Highway, she was talking about how realtors always had their faces on all the billboards and signs, while you never saw a restaurant or a lot of other businesses put the face up of the owner and wondered why that was. So, I thought she would be amused at seeing Chuck's face on the American Family billboard! :-)

Grandma's Recital help

Mom and Dad came for a visit on their way home from their winter in Cancun. The boys had just gotten their songs to practice for their May recital, and it was nice to have them get to practice with Grandma and play some duets with her. They also had a great time playing Rummicube with Grandpa and Grandma.

Progress

Thursday night, I had a Homemade Gourmet event in Savannah. In the morning, I put a venison roast, potatoes, and carrots in the Crockpot (with HG roast seasoning). It was very easy, but using the wild meat is something I rarely think to do when planning for dinner. Then, Friday night, I used the little bit leftover and made barbecue venison sandwiches. They ate all of it right up. I was very proud of myself for using venison in two meals this week. The freezer is still full--so am trying to plan what I will be doing next week!

Two weeks ago on Tuesday, (along with Chuck's Open House and ribbon cutting), we also started our Spring group homeschool classes. It has been about 3 years since I taught and we attended. Before that, I taught several years in a row. We decided we were ready to go back to it again. The boys are very excited about their classes--they wrote about them on their blogs. I am teaching a Spanish Conversation class for high schoolers who have already had Spanish I or above. There are seven in that class and I am really enjoying it. There are so many activities we can do when they already have knoweledge. I am also teaching an intro. to Spanish designed for elementary. I have students aged 7-13 (and one 18 yr. old) and there are 16 students! This is a picture of part of them at the end of class. I wasn't sure how it would go with so many in the class and with such an age span, but they have been really attentive and are learning quickly!

Challenge!

Well, I have a new commitment/challenge. I am trying to use everything in my freezer in the next few months. The apple cobbler in there won't be a challenge to use, but some of the other interesting items I continue to overlook when making dinner preparation will be! I know that using it all will not only help on the grocery bill, but also make sure it doesn't go to waste due to freezer burn, etc.
So, if anyone has great recipes for any of the following, please send them my way: pheasant, turkey, duck, venison, or frog legs. I did make fried turkey the other night which they all three LOVE. But, that is a lot of wild meat in my freezer! What a good little wife I would be if I could cook up all that the might husband hunter brought in. :-)

Ribbon Cutting

On Tuesday, the boys and I got to attend Chuck's ribbon cutting for his new agency. He also had an Open House all day for some of his new (and old) customers to get to know him better. Caden and I spent all of Monday afternoon baking Homemade Gourmet treats for him to serve. The day went well for Chuck, and he is working hard in his new agency.
